The VERY Best Dance Instruction Out There!!!
"Shawn Trautman is the best dance instructor yet! A great teacher in addition to dancer. I've tried several dance instruction VHS and DVD's (9 in all from Christy Lane, Diane Horner, Teresa Mason, Wiley Hicks, and Cal Pozo), but I didn't stick with them, because they would move so fast that you'd get lost. I would get tired of starting them over and over just trying to pick up the steps. But Shawn makes it so simple to learn, keeping it at a slower pace for the beginner. He also throws in some variations for more challenge. They're so good, I have added 4 of his DVD's to my collection. But his aren't collecting dust like the others."

Very Impressed!
"I purchased this DVD to supplement class instruction and help practice. I loved how everything, from the steps, to holding to posture to leading and following, is broken down to the most basic level and gone over thoroughly and repeated."

Absolutely Fantastic!
"I'm a first time customer and now completely sold on Shawn's instruction. My girlfriend and I have been taking weekly two-step classes for the last 3 months and I wanted to go back and work on the basics. In the first 15 minutes alone I picked up several things that I wish I'd known months ago. What I really like is that Shawn spends the time teaching what it means to lead a woman and that his wife goes through what following is about. We really enjoyed the lessons and look forward to going through the next DVD. We've decided it's much easier to learn from your DVDs than our class and we'll be spending more time at home practicing. Thanks!"

5-Star Lessons!
"Shawn, your teaching style is comprehensive and clear allowing for plenty of practice time within the lesson. We really appreciate the thought you put into the lessons and have enjoyed them immensely. Joanna, I value the information you've given on following responsibly and "responsively". It's been great for us who can't find good quality lessons on West Coast Swing."

What are the Technical Details for Country Western Starter Pack?
What's my take on the Country Western Starter Pack?
First off, I love to go out country dancing - that's important because it means that this pack was not just put together for marketing purposes, rather, it was put together because of it's practical and functional purposes. I've taken, given, and been a part of many country dance lessons, ballroom dance lessons, and swing and latin dance lessons and I'll tell you that country has the most options open for dancing and has the widest variety of folks to do it with. There's never any shortage of partners nor is there a lack of people to share the hobby. It's fairly inexpensive and a great social outlet.
All that said, if you're new to country dancing and you're looking to get started with your lessons, you should absolutely start with Line Dance 101. Whether you're interested in line dancing or not, it's a great introduction to rhythm and steps that are going to be the foundation of your dancing as you progress. Believe me, it's much easier learning to do just steps and get your body accustomed to it than it is to learn steps and worry about leading or following right away. Also, it'll build each partner's confidence in themselves before having to work together. I started with line dances and have had great success with thousands of folks over the years going this route. I'm not saying you have to love line dancing or even want to do it, but understanding it and learning it first will help your dancing tremendously.
As for the other 4 DVDs - I'd recommend doing the country western dance sampler next as it gives a decent lesson on several dances that you'll soon spend lots of time on. It exposes you to them and allows your mind and body to start piecing the dances together. After that, you can do either Two-Step Volume 1 or Swing Dancing Volume 1. Both are easy to learn and have just 6 counts in their basic step. Each one is about 90 minutes and has lots of details, tips, and tricks on how to make the dance easy.
Last is West Coast Swing Volume 1. This is a tough dance and I'd definitely NOT recommend it if you haven't gone through the others. It's the most complicated social dance, but it's not hard (that may not make sense to you yet, but it will). This dance will give you a good challenge, but it shouldn't be the dance you start with.
Overall, there's a ton of material in this pack. If you're new to country dancing, the Country Western Starter Pack will keep you busy and help you look good quickly. As always, if you have any questions once you've gone through it, please feel free to call me at our studio and I'll be glad to help!

Customer Comments
These are some of the many customer reviews submitted to us about the Country Western Starter Pack:
"WONDERFUL! I have always LOVED dancing, but my husband of 5 years (high school sweetheart - 4 years) was never very good at it. He said he would like to learn, but we live in a small town in Iowa and unfortunately it's not a big deal here. We watched and learned through, Two-Step for Beginners Volume 1, and can't wait to learn more and "show off" at a friends' wedding in September! Thank you!" Unknown
"Thank You Shawn! What a wonderful gift this was to my husband! We've been married for 7 years and have only talked about dancing together until we tried your tapes. We've now worked our way through all 5 of the DVDs and have been having a BLAST!!! We love how you present the instruction and continue to be impressed at how quickly we're learning. Our favorite is the triple two step and the west coast swing (that one's WAY harder). We have already purchased more and will keep an eye out for when your series on triple two step comes out. It was nice talking with you on the phone as well. Many thanks once again!" Dawn Gruber, Unknown
