COUNTRY DANCE LESSON:
TWO STEPPIN'!
|
|
A foundation of the country dance lesson is the
Two-Step. As the band Alabama says,
"If you’re going to play in Texas, you've got
to have a fiddle in the band." Here's a new truism
translated for the dance world: If you're going to
dance in Texas, you've got to know the two-step. It's
interchangeably called "Texas two step," so you know
those Texans really get it going on the dance
floor.
The two-step is a smooth progressive dance created
for four-quarter and two-quarter time music. It has a
six-count basic that is counted quick-quick-slow-slow
or one-two-three (four) five (six). The pulse of the
dance is constant, with a forward progression that
creates an illusion of acceleration rather than a
pause.
"The two-step transcends the music," Shawn Trautman says. "It's an
exhilarating challenge in navigation and
lead-and-follow dancing that is difficult to match in
the genre of social dance."
And that music is everywhere. Learn to two-step, and
you'll be ready to dance when nearly any country song
blares through that jukebox. That means more time on
the dance floor - and fewer nights spent perched on a
bar stool, watching those country dancers and
thinking "I could do that."
You can - and Shawn can help. It's no surprise
that one of Xpress Innovation's best sellers is the
Two Step Starter Pack. No matter
your level of dance expertise, Shawn's instruction
can raise your skill set higher. Learn in the comfort
of your own home and when those on the bar stools ask
you where you learned your moves, you can honestly
answer, "I received personal coaching from a
world-renowned coach."
