Side-Steps - Learn to Dance
|
| |
| Side-Steps |
| by: Shawn
Trautman |
| |
| Side-steps are exactly what they
sound like. You use them to move to the right or left
without stepping forward or backward or crossing your
feet. Picture yourself in a movie theater to slide down
the row to your seat in the middle of the theater, you
need to do side-steps. |
| Foot Positions
Used |
| Side-steps use the first and
second foot positions. |
| How to Do a
Side-Step |
| A side-step to the right begins in
first foot position with your weight on your left foot.
Step out to the right with your right foot to second
foot position. Let your left foot follow your right to
bring your feet back to a first foot position, ready to
begin your next side-step. If you want to side-step to
the left, you would begin with your weight on your
right foot, step to second foot position with your left
foot, bring your right foot to meet your left in first
position, and so on. |
| Master It Now |
| Take this opportunity to master
side-steps in both directions. Picture yourself back in
that movie theater. If there is a line on the floor
that you can follow, it'll make it that much easier.
Practice your side-steps by taking eight side-steps to
the right, and then eight back to the left. Repeat.
Next take four side-steps to the right and back to the
left. Repeat. Cut down the number of side-steps in each
direction to two, and then even one, and then repeat.
You should do this exercise with both feet until you're
comfortable. |
