We had a great time learning to Slow Dance!
"When my wife told me that we were taking Slow Dance lessons, I was a bit apprehensive. I've never really been that comfortable on the dance floor. However, my concerns started to go away when she showed me that we would be learning and practicing in the privacy of our home with the Shawn Trautman Slow Dancing for Beginners DVD Collection. We listened to the DVD lessons a few times. It is great that when she or I had questions, we could simply stop, rewind and practice at our own pace. Shawn Trautman explains steps and moves in an easy-to-understand, confident manner.
We actually ventured out to a public event last weekend -- a somewhat formal charity event. To everyone's surprise (especially my own), both my wife and I were awesome on the dance floor! Unlike the old days, where I would slink into the corner when the music started, I confidently asked my wife to dance all night long. Both of us even found ourselves asking others to dance -- and offered them little tips along the way (forgive us Shawn for borrowing some of those!). We are both actually looking forward to going to more events where we can "show our stuff" on the dance floor. For these reasons, I whole-heartedly recommend the Shawn Trautman Slow Dancing for Beginners and rate it Five Stars!"

What's my candid take on the Slow Dancing Starter Pack?
(Written Dec. 17th, 2009) I just finished writing Slow Dancing for Beginners Volume 1 a moment ago and this mostly applies to the Slow Dance Starter Pack so I'll repeat myself with a few additions along the way.
Slow dancing is largely misunderstood. When I think of slow dancing I think of all the times over the years that I've heard "now that's the way to dance with a woman!" It's not the old "stand and sway" and it's not some raunchy class-less dance that gets lots of attention on the dance floor, but in a bad way. What I teach is a very traditional 'hold me close but don't just stand there and make me feel awkward' dance.
I learned to slow dance in high school. It wasn't from a ballroom or any of the dance instructors that were so-called 'experts'. I first learned by watching my parents and my grandparents slow dance. I never felt awkward watching them; rather it was a 'hey, that looks easy and fun' and something I could do with anyone. When I asked about slow dancing at my ballroom dance lessons, the answer was something like 'sure, here's what it looks like' and they proceeded to show me some big glamorous dance with choreographed steps and big flailing arms. My answer to that was 'thanks, but no thanks'. That's not what normal people do, nor is it something you can do with someone you just met (that was important for me when I was single). If you're looking for that kind of slow dancing, I'd say there are probably a dozen or so other videos on the market that you could get - I have about 10 of them and I just shook my head upon watching as it's just not something I'd recommend to anyone (it reminded me of the lessons I took in a ballroom - just not practical and sure as heck not something I'd do in a club or at a wedding).
In 2003, Joanna and I put together an entire curriculum on slow dancing and spent about 6 months developing it. We put it together specifically for folks that were getting married and their bridal parties and we had a blast with our classes. We taught the slow dancing basics in a way that both the guys and the ladies looked good and felt comfortable. Since that time, we've further developed it and refined our teaching methods and all of it is captured here on Slow Dancing for Beginners Volume 1. In the last 2 years since we released the slow dancing series, we've received tons of letters from folks around the world that have thanked us for finally teaching them something practical they can do without feeling embarrassed.
