"I bought the first of these three DVDs (Beginner 1) and found it to be an excellent DVD. It taught me the basics of right turns, left turns, and other basic turns.
I then got the other two DVDs and found I had a great foundation in regards to learning basic Swing Dancing. I found it best to see the DVDs several times and master one move before learning the next. I liked the explanation of both lead and follow basics. This way no one is left out.
Also, the sections are well outlined so that if you want to practice one or two specific turns, there is easy access to that particular turn.
This was a very wise investment for me.
In addition, from e-mails that I have gotten from them, they really care about their students.

Excellent Swing Instruction
"This group of Swing videos is well worth the purchase price many times over! I never knew how to dance until I started going to a country dance venue about 4 months ago and began attending $7/2 hour events once a week. I was able to learn the primitive basics, but found myself getting left behind when all the fun moves were being taught, so I purchased the Shawn Trautman Swing Starter Pack. The first video will get you enough basics and simple moves to hold your own in any club. The material is very in depth, and easy to understand step by step. By the time you make it through the second video you'll be one of the people that 9 out of 10 folks in the crowd wish they could dance like. The way the moves are laid out and build upon each other make child's play out of dance maneuvers that I never imagined myself being able to do. The third and final disc is just as good as the second as it throws even more moves at you along with combinations that will have you throwing around your partner from the beginning to end of each song with ease. In the 2-3 weeks that I've been going over these videos I honestly think it would have taken me over a year to even learn half the material without a private instructor. Keeping this review honest, the only bad thing I could say about these dvds would be that on a hi-def tv the picture quality loses a bit of clarity when the cameras change to the close-up view. Very Impressed!
"My wife and I are in the process of taking East Coast Swing dance lessons. Being a novice I was overwelmed! I purchased the Swing Dancing for Beginners (both volumes) to supplement our lessons. To my delight Shawn teaches exactly what my dance instructor is teaching us. I wish I had found these DVD's before signing up for dance lessons. These DVD's are the same as taking professional dance lessons. We also purchased the intermeadiate volume and have completed it as well. You Can Swing Dance to any kind of Music!!
"At the age of 28 I had never been taught any form of dance. At social gatherings whether it be a school dance, wedding/anniversary, country music bar, military ball, or even an underground punk rock show, I was always on the sideline watching other people have fun and never knowing that the one form of dance could have me completely covered every occasion until I got this video. By the time I finished the Swing Dancing Volume 1 video I had learned enough to go out and dance at virtually any venue from mild to wild. The video begins with teaching you not only the basic steps, but also how to use the steps to any variety of music styles and speeds in a way that's simple to understand, even if you happen to be one of those people who has a problem staying with the beat of music. In addition to the in depth step by step instruction, throughout the video Shawn adds many helpful hints along the way to help guys with the lead like keeping your partner's mind occupied by doing the left, right, and underarm turns he demonstrates. Joanna also chimes in with helpful tips for the ladies from the followers perspective and makes sure that the followers have just as in depth step by step demonstration as the leaders receive from Shawn. The only flaw this video had was that when the camera zoomed in on some parts of the instruction it used a digital zoom which causes a bit of clarity loss, but it does not the degrade the excellent quality of the lessons taught (which is what really matters), so I still give this video a 5 Star rating. I'd recommend at least getting the Beginners Volume 2 Swing as well because you'll learn all the basics in this video fairly quick and want to start trying the more fancy turns, spins, wraps, and other moves to come in Volume 2. "

Now We're Not Afraid of Getting on the Dance Floor!
"My husband and I have been in love with big band music for years. When we find a group that is playing locally, we are there. we enjoy the night out to watch the dancers and the music. We never knew where to begin with the dancing so we enviously watched. Too afraid to make fools of ourselves on the dance floor. Dance lessons at some of the facilities near us were out of our price range. I am so fortunate that I found this collection. I ordered the Swing Dance Volume I and II set. We had so much fun learning comfortably in our own home (and privacy) and it wasn't long before we got up and out on to the dance floor ourselves. AND, we noticed we were NOT the least experienced dancers out there. The fun we have had since being able to listen to the music as well as dance is amazing. and all of it so affordable. The instruction is so simple and easy to follow. We were amazed. We loved it so much we gave Volume I as a gift to our best friends. I can't wait to learn more. I highly recommend Shawn Troutman dance lessons to anyone considering learning to dance. We went from no skill at all to feeling comfortable and having so much fun with it. Shawn and Joanna's step-by-step demonstrations make it fun, easy and so not intimidating. Just do it!!! It's fun!"

If it weren't for the Swing, I would've missed out on some of the best social dance experiences I've ever had. Swing is a great dance to get guys (in particular) hooked on dancing as it's fun, upbeat, and masculine when done correctly. Ladies, if you're looking for a product line that will get your husbands, boyfriends, significant others, etc. interested in dancing, go with these DVDs.

Swing dancing is easy to learn and is very repetitive with the footwork (that means they can "get it" quickly). This is particulary important because most guys want to have successes early on so they'll have an incentive to continue. They want to feel like they look good and that others won't make fun of them. The music for Swing helps with this as well as it allows them to get into it a lot easier than, say, the waltz would.
In these 3 DVDs, Joanna and I assume you've never danced before and start with the absolute basics. There's a lot of concepts that we go through, but we go through them in a progression that really makes sense and that won't leave you wondering. We also cover all the material in both single and triple time rhythms, which allows you to dance the Swing either fast or slow, depending on the music (you'll understand the importance once you go through it). My favorite part is the use of the hula hoop. This is the only DVD we've made thus far where we've used it as it's a great tool for seeing and reinforcing the leads.
Not only do you learn about different moves (very important), but you also learn about leading and following in ways that are extremely practical and useful from the get-go. Etiquette on the dance floor is also emphasized as this is a social dance and one where you're dancing with someone else (directly) and also with many others on the floor (indirectly) - as such, it's important to know what to do and also what NOT to do.
