The two-hand hold is the connection foundation for
several moves in swing and Latin. This type of
connection is also indispensable during the
learning process as you and your partner match up
your footwork.
Connection Points Used
The two-hand hold uses connection point 1.
Foot Positions Used
The two-hand hold uses all foot positions, and is
usually started in first or second foot
position.
How to Create and Use the Two-Hand
Hold
The two-hand hold is a combination of two one-hand
holds. It is created by the leader standing facing
his partner, with about 18 inches between them. In
non-Latin dances, he raises his arms to waist level
with his hands open (palms up) for the follower to
place her hands into. The follower then places her
hands in the leader’s hands, and the leader
gently grasps the follower’s hands, being
careful not to squeeze. In Latin dances, the leader
holds his arms as described in the one-hand hold
and uses a lobster-claw grip on both sides rather
than just one.
