Searching for West Coast Swing dance tips? Look no further. Shawn Trautman’s collection of West Coast Swing instructional DVDs will teach you to emulate this jitterbug-based style with confidence. Take the following West Coast Swing dance tips to heart (or, even better, to feet.)
• West Coast Swing Dance Tip #1: Remember the six-count slotted basic of West Coast Swing. It’s made up of two walking-steps, a tap-step, and a triple-step (an anchor-step). The term “slotted” is used because the dancers dance on an imaginary line and travel back and forth on it, as opposed to a circular or progressive dance, in which the dancers move around the floor.
• West Coast Swing Dance Tip #2: Picture yourself dancing on a tightrope with the leader staying in place and the follower coming in and then away again in a very repetitive motion. The leader will be in control, but the follower will be the one who gets showcased because all eyes will be on her.
• West Coast Swing Dance Tip #3: Rather than trying to learn everything together at once, it’s best to learn West Coast Swing in layers. Work on one element, then work your way to the next, and so on.
• West Coast Swing Dance Tip #4: It’s more important in West Coast Swing than in any other dance that you know your steps individually before trying them with your partner. The lead and follow portion of West Coast Swing involves intricate detail, and you don’t want to be working on your footwork at the same time.
West Coast Swing is the dancer’s dance, so incorporate these tried and true tips into your dancing for faster results and improved dance skills!
