Fog vs. Clarity in our lives

Fault vs Responsibility Shawn Trautman Lessons in Leadership

I’m impressed with how clear this picture is compared to what I just saw with a naked eye.

I could barely make out the telephone pole and, though I probably should wear glasses when reading, I don’t have any trouble seeing things at a distance.

I took this picture to remind myself why I like fog so much.

But first, a reminder of what fog is.

It’s formed when there’s a temperature difference between the ground and air and tiny water droplets (moisture vapor) condense and get suspended in the air.

It’s also forms overnight after I sleep, but not enough, and haven’t yet had coffee.

It also forms when watching our political landscape unfold.

The beauty in fog is that it forces us to be mindful of things directly around us.

We have to, because we can’t see anything else.

Our brains are so trained to see and react only to what’s visible, or known, but it often comes at the cost of missing those things right in front of us.

Fog also reminds us to temporarily let go of all those things on the horizon that we can’t do anything about at present.

Be where you are.

Where else can you be? Goodness. That’s a loaded question. Being present means you’re fully engaged in what you’re doing, whether in a conversation, a task, a walk in the park, a game, etc.

For that brief moment, Metallica’s song “Nothing Else Matters” rules your airwaves.

Fog also reinforces beliefs that there’s something greater outside of what can be seen.

For many people this is Faith-based and it helps them internalize potential eternity with their Heavenly Father.

There’s probably a list a mile long of things people believe in that cannot be seen so I won’t go into them here.

Suffice it to say, fog, ironically, brings clarity.

It enables us to dig deeper and focus, temporarily, on what we can see right in front of us and also forces us to have a little Hope & Faith in the things we can’t see or control.

And right now, we could all use a little more Clarity, Hope & Faith.

I’ve Never Been to a Hooters

When most people think of branding, they think of colors and logos. Branding is the core essence of your existence. It’s what your brand represents. It’s what your brand conveys. It’s the imagination your brand ignites. It’s the experience and feelings and atmosphere. It’s the floors, tables, dust, and lighting. It’s the menu & word choices, the food, the speed, and the smile that comes with it. It’s the bathrooms and the soap and the garbage and the type of toilet paper. It’s the system that works to remind you that you’re there for a reason. It’s what gets you to talk about it over and over and over.
