“I purchased the Complete Volume Set of Shawn Trautman’s Swing Dance Collection and it was a solid investment. He breaks down steps very nicely with a great attention to detail and ease of instruction. I love the “laid back” style, yet professionalism to show that ANYONE can dance and enjoy the benefits of social dancing. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to invest in solid teaching in a nonthreatening, non-intimidating, yet, fun manner. You can use his as a technical tool to enhance dance training or independently to learn new steps. I’ve been teaching for years and am always looking for different video lessons and teaching materials to enhance my library. Is an Elegant and Romantic Waltz – Fun?
“Yea! Thanks to the Trautmans we can now add another dance step to our growing collection as we climb up the beginning dancers’ learning curve. Waltz 101 is our fifth Trautman dance lesson video and it is every bit as good as the other four we’ve used.
I especially like the organization of instruction (intro/rhythm-timing/connection-style/lead-follow/review) that they have employed across all their 101 lessons. It makes for a very clear and easy progression to learn the dance step, and it has proven very useful for easy returns to specific sections of the dvd for repeated study.
Their combined instructional comments are extremely helpful for both partners and are well balanced for both the leader and follower. I enjoy the tasteful decor of their dance studio, the excellent video quality, the nice balance of music audio with their voice instruction, and the excellent camera tracking of their moves with respect to what is being taught at the moment. View it on a large screen tv and you will almost feel like you are right there with them.
The only criticism I can offer is that the Waltz 101 lesson may not seem as much “fun” as their Swing 101 lesson that we are concurrently studying. But, I think that just comes with the differences in the rhythms and tempos of the two dances. In contrast, if you are more in the mood to learn how to flow gracefully and elegantly to a dreamy, romantic waltz, rather than to learn the fast footwork and turns of the Swing – then the Trautman’s Waltz 101 dance lesson will definitely fill the bill. They do their typical great job of teaching all the basics “plus” some extra challenges to get beginners confidently out on the dance floor to have both a “fun and romantic” time dancing.”

Now We Aren’t Afraid to get on the Dance Floor!!
“My husband and I have been in love with big band music for years. When we find a group that is playing locally, we are there. we enjoy the night out to watch the dancers and the music. We never knew where to begin with the dancing so we enviously watched. Too afraid to make fools of ourselves on the dance floor. Dance lessons at some of the facilities near us were out of our price range. I am so fortunate that I found this collection. I ordered the Swing Dance Volume I and II set. “I really enjoyed the beginner Salsa 101 lesson by Shawn and Joanna. I was new to Salsa and the steps are demonstrated slowly. Then the man’s steps and the woman’s steps are broken down and explained. I really appreciated the fact that they tried to demonstrate the various steps slowly. One aspect that is often lost in dance video lessons is that moves are explained too quickly. Unfortunately if one cannot do something slow, one cannot do it fast. In tennis, if one cannot hit forehands slow consistently, one will not be able to hit the ball fast consistently. The Salsa 101 lesson explains dance moves in the slower fashion. Only later are the dances done in real time to illustrate what they would look like on the dance floor. I have enjoyed a number of their dance lessons because I believe they understand how to teach. “Besides covering the dance steps in an easy-to-follow way, the instruction for beginners also covers leading and following. The dance videos I checked out of the library showed dance positions, but didn’t explain how these positions are used to lead the lady and follow the man. The instructors seem like very nice people. This dance lesson and the whole series of new videos from Shawn Trautman have been a godsend and much more useful to us than the others we’ve tried. We are actually doing the dances within a short time and having fun, rather than getting aggravated with one another. Trautman’s emphasis on the differing roles of leader and follower and the very clear demonstrations of those roles have helped us enormously. These DVDs include much more music and time to practice the new steps than most videos, rather than just watching an instructor do a step and go to another step. We like this video a lot and strongly recommend it. On a side note, the logistics/timing of shipping and subsequent email communications with the company were, after many frustrations with other online outfits, the best we’ve seen. “
