What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you see your own beauty or do you immediately look for flaws?

Do you see and own the unique features of what make you, you, or do you look to cover them up to look like everyone else?

Do you see yourself as others see you? 

Now, contrast this with your Self-Image. 

Self-image is the mental picture of yourself – as in how you see yourself without a mirror (both the outer and inner you). 

Do you have a positive self-image or are you beating yourself up unnecessarily?

No one’s perfect. Everyone’s got their own struggles and the things about themselves they don’t like. Even that person you look up to who you think “has it all”.  

Self-image can be improved over time if you’re up for the challenge. It takes some digging and some self-truths, but being comfortable in one’s own skin is a big deal. 

Once you’re comfortable in your own skin, an amazing thing happens – clothing you never thought “looked good on you” looks amazing. Situations all seem to “accept” you. People start opening up to you. Doors start opening.

People like people who are real and authentic and can be upfront & honest in ways that are not aimed at hurting others.

People with a healthy self-image believe in themselves but have an accurate (not over-inflated) depiction in their head of who they really are. They see themselves as others see them. They also understand what drives them, what their strengths are and what they’re not great at. 

I struggle at times to find my own “liking point” and fight to get it back. I sometimes find myself thinking of the past with regrets only to short-circuit my thoughts and do my best to forgive myself.

I know I’m not perfect. I know you’re not perfect. Yes, you! 

I also know we’re out here trying and people depend on us. 

Today I’m going to do the best I can to step up and do my part. I’ll add my thoughts where they help. I’ll do kind things as they come up. I’ll do my best not to complain. I’ll show love and compassion to those around me. I’ll attempt to not infringe on anyone else’s rights. I’ll refrain from prejudging anyone.

And, most of all, I’ll be kind to myself. I’ll even do my best to smile for no reason at all, even when no on
